A couple of questions. First, did you sand and prime? Because plastic is a b*tch to paint, I know. Then, have you thought of using Green Stuff by Reaper Miniatures, Citadel, or other miniature lines? It's a two-part epoxy putty that can be molded (which would probably make this design kick ten times more butt than it already does) and then it dries hard. It can be sanded, primed, and painted, and it works great.
